Moto Series Track Day Information

2010 Track Days

General Information

Track days have never been more fun or affordable!  We offer prices that everyone can afford. No membership fees required for track day riders. Anyone can tack on a date with us, even if they ride with another organization!  However, what we offer that no other group can is a clear path from track day newbie to licensed racer!

Our instructional groups range from new and limited experienced riders taking them to a beginner race pace up to full race licensure.  After graduating from the instructional group, riders can confidently sign up for the open group.

The open group has no direct instruction, but some official riders will be present to monitor safety and can be used for riding advice and instruction on an individual basis.  If a member is found to be circulating at an inadequate pace or unsafe riding, the rider will be moved into the instructional group to receive direct training to help correct or improve skills needed.  This is for the benefit of all riders.

Lastly, the advanced group is for advanced racers and the fastest of track day riders.  We recommend novice and most small bore racers to enter the open group, leaving the advanced group for larger machines and the more experienced in general.

Track days vary in cost by location and date.  Their costs can be found on the calendar and in the online registration system.  All payments for track days are handled in an easy to use, online checkout system.  For administrative reasons, the cost for a track day will be increased 7 days before the event for late registrations. Many of our days sell out completely well before that mark anyway! Our open groups commonly sell out weeks prior, so do not anticipate available positions if you walk in the day of.

Track Day Operations

When arriving at the track, it is important to note that the track is a separate business entity and has its own rules and fees separate from our own. While not occurring at every track or even every event, this is commonly expressed as a gate fee of $10 per person.   We encourage you to bring friends and family along to watch and help, unfortunately this often means added gate fees.  Camping is generally free and open at most tracks, but is occasionally not allowed or a fee is applied; at tracks such as BeaveRun typically $10 per vehicle.

We recommend you plan to arrive 7:00-7:30AM for a standard track day, as tech/registration opens at 7:30.  This is commonly held in either a covered shed (the tech shed at Nelson Ledges) or through an open garage (such as BeaveRun).  You roll into the tech area on your motorcycle.  You sign in on our registration sheet that we have on file after you register for one of our days online.  We inspect your bike and then place a sticker on the front fairing or windscreen.  This shows us that you are registered and your bike is safe.

At 8:30 registration/tech is closed and a riders meeting is held to commence the day's activities.  Attendance is mandatory.  At 9AM the track goes green for the Advanced group and the instructional group members are to report to the head instructor for lecture and instructor assignments.  Instructor assignments will be based on previous riding experience, with brand new track riders receiving extensive classroom instruction.  The classroom location will be covered during the riders meeting, so make sure you attend.

The day will consist of rotating groups of on track activity.  The order is nearly always the same.

•   Advanced

•   Open

•   Instructional

There will normally be 3 (20 minute) sessions for each group before lunch.  For lunch the track is shut down for one hour.  The day will conclude with 4 more (20 minute sessions) for each group.  If a race school is held at an event, the provisional racers will hold their laps during the Open session, not the instructional session due to their increased speed.

After the last session, all instructional riders are to report back to the head instructor for follow up guidance and graduation ceremonies.

•   Removal of all side "kick" or center stands

Rider Preparations:

•   Full Face Helmet

•   Gauntlet style gloves that cover the wrist

•   Boots that cover the ankle

•   Leather suit

•   Back Protector (Instructional Group Exempt)

The leather suit may be of a two piece construction, but most have a full circumference zipper.  One piece leather suits with built in back protectors are available to rent, but are on a first come first serve basis.  Rider is required to provide the rest of their own kit, as only leathers are available for rental.  Leathers should fit relatively tight, and some find it unusual at first.  Full one piece Aerostich style suits are permitted for touring and cruiser style motorcycles in the Instructional group in lieu of leathers.

Additional Gear to Bring:

•   Fuel  (Only Expensive Race Gas is available at the track)

•   Folding Chair and umbrella

•   Water (drink constantly, track riding is an athletic activity!)

•   Earplugs (you will ride faster!)

•   Running/Bicycle Shorts and or shirts (fit well under leathers)

•   Sunscreen

•   Tire pressure gauge (temperatures vary greatly over the day)

•   Snacks such as energy bars or fruits and nuts

If You Camp:

•   Be respectful of campers around you

•   Leash all pets and keep them away from others property

•   Do not deface track property via writing, stickers, etc.

•   Clean up after your self and your area throughout your day

•   Quite Hours are from 10pm-7am.  No loud music, talking, or loud generators.  We take this very seriously and reserve the right to cancel track and/or race reservations for loud or rude behavior.  If you are going to talk during quite hours, do it away from other campers.  This is for the enjoyment of all participants; many of whom have traveled from long distances to arrive late and will need as much sleep as possible so that we will all have a safe and fun weekend. We ask those who want to party to hold them in areas away from general camping and maintain respectable noise limits.
