I have a 91 ex 500 with the stock 16 inch rims. The guy I bought the bike from (Tim) said to go with the Avon AM 23 tires they are the best. He said he tried all others. I have been looking around for the Avons AM23 140/80/16 and finally found some at bike bandit .com for a reasonable price. about $186 Ebay wanted way to much for the same tire. I could not find a front tire race compound.

Can the EX guys help me out with what tires they are running. where did you get them from and how much? How do they perform? I am having some trouble finding a race tire for the EX with out breaking the bank.

I have a nice gs500 for sale that you should buy instead! I did not know that the ex's came with a 16 inch rim. Is there a mod where you can put a 17 inch rim on it?

sorry to dig this one from the fresh grave, but did you find out anything about this, or does anyone have opinions on this?

also, for a guy who is just starting out on the track, what's a good tire for a EX500 that will last him into open group pace (say... 1:25's at nelson or 1:15's at beaver)? my friend is interested in track riding, but his current tires on the 500 are shot.
